IELTS

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to help you work, study or migrate to a country where English is the native language.  This includes countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and USA. Your ability to listen, read, write and speak in English will be assessed during the test. IELTS is graded on a scale of 1-9.

IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English. In IELTS, there are four papers: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. There are two different IELTS modules: Academic and General Training. The Speaking and Listening tests are the same in both modules, but the Reading and Writing tests are different.

IELTS can be taken by anyone irrespective of age, gender, race, nationality, or religion, however, the IELTS test is not recommended for those under 16 years of age. There is no pass or fail score in IELTS. Your test results are reported in band scores from 1.0, the lowest, to 9.0, the highest, in half band increments. You will receive an overall band score, as well as individual band scores for each test section – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

The IELTS is valid up to 2 years from the date of the exam. The result date will not play any role in the validity of IELTS.

TOEFL

The full form of ‘TOEFL’ is – ‘Test of English as a Foreign Language‘, and it is a test conducted by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). These are the same people that conduct the GRE every year. The TOEFL exam is conducted in two versions:

Internet-based test (iBT) and

Paper-based test (PBT).

The TOEFL iBT is a four-hour, computerized test with four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. You’ll use one main skill for each section (so on Reading you’ll read passages and on Listening you’ll listen to audio clips), with some questions or tasks requiring the use of multiple skills.

In order to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), you need to have passed in 10+2 from any recognised Indian Board or University.

The test is scored on a scale of 0 to 300 on each section, added up to determine the total score (0 – 900). The minimum passing score is 600, corresponding to 200 scores for each section.

Validity: TOEFL scores will be valid for two years.

Test of English as a Foreign Language is a standardized test to measure the English language ability of non-native speakers wishing to enroll in English-speaking universities. The test is accepted by more than 11,000 universities and other institutions in over 190 countries and territories.
